FAUOwlAccess.com: There are so many great players in South Florida, how do you get them interested in FAU?
Marcy Hora-Cava: How could they not be? FAU is 5 minutes from the beach and it has one of the most beautiful campuses in Florida. On top of that we are in Boca Raton & have beautiful weather all year. FAU is a growing school and if a tennis player wants to be part of a growing team and work hard then this is the place for them.
FAUOwlAccess.com: What is the most interesting thing in your office?
Hora-Cava: A photo that I took in college of a track athlete winning a 100 yard race with a prosthetic foot. This photo reminds me every day never to give up and how important determination is.
FAUOwlAccess.com: How did you get started in coaching?
Hora-Cava: I have taught tennis since my teens and it has always been a passion of mine.
FAUOwlAccess.com: What is your favorite part about coaching at Florida Atlantic?
Hora-Cava: Tennis for the most part is an individual sport & until some of these ladies come to FAU they have never been part of a team. Some players come into FAU thinking that all they have to worry about is their results and their own actions. As a coach I have to get the ladies to understand that they are not only part of a team, but they are a family. FAU is very supportive and provides all of the tools to have a successful team.
FAUOwlAccess.com: What has been the best moment at FAU?
Hora-Cava: There is not a single moment that stands out, but here are many moments that stand out. I would have to say watching the ladies on my team grow and do things that they themselves did not know they were capable of are my favorite moments. There is an opportunity for a great moment every day here at FAU and that is what makes my job here so rewarding.
