BOCA RATON- Rose Gressley's pinch-hit infield single drove in Becky Brandies and gave the Florida Atlantic University softball team a 4-3 win over North Texas on Sunday.
FAU (18-17, 1-2 Sun Belt) went up 2-0 in the third inning when Amber Barton homered to center field that allowed Ambar Jones to score. North Texas took the lead in the sixth on three hits and a fielding error to take a 3-2 lead. The Owls regained the advantage in the bottom of the inning when Christine Houghtaling scored a Mean Green error.
UNT had the go ahead run on base in the top of the ninth when Rebecca Waters led off the inning with a double to left, but Kat Stauffer retired the next three batters in order to end the inning. Brandies was placed on second to start the bottom of the tenth, when Cari Curfman sacrificed her over to third. Gressley then came on to pinch hit and singled to second, allowing Brandies to score and giving FAU the win.
The Owls will take time off before traveling to Alabama to face South Alabama.
