BOCA RATON - There were plenty of new faces on the Oxley Practice Fields on Wednesday.

A few walk-ons have joined the team and of course there was a bit of interest in new receiver Jay McCants, who practiced and will be eligible to play in 2013.

However, the most important development was the arrival of a player who will be able to help the Owls this season.

Peeking at Practice: Wednesday's Report

  • Making Plays: RB Damian Fortner, who scored a touchdown in the Owls' scrimmage at FanFest, continues to do well at practice.
  • Stepping Up: FAU held its first practice featuring a scout team running Wagner formations on offense on defense. It was interesting to see QB Melvin German with FAU's offense instead of practicing with the scout team, a sign that his preparation for playing vs. Wagner is continuing.
  • Instant Message: “This was our first scout period at the end which is always kind of brutal on the first day. You get those expectations and you want them to give us a good look. We'll get better as we go. It's like that every year.”

- Carl Pelini on the FAU scout team

  • Up Next: FAU returns to the practice field at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday
