FAU could land its second point guard of the 2013 recruiting class as early as today.

Prestonwood Christian (Texas) guard Marquan Botley is in Boca Raton on an official visit and said he could pledge his services to the Owls if these next couple days go well.

“I would say that FAU is my frontrunner. That have recruited me that hardest and I have the best relationship with those guys,” Botley told OwlAccess.com on Wednesday. “If I like everything there is a good chance that I could commit.”

Botley can score and is extremely quick, but his biggest positive may be that he's a winner. Recently Prestonwood and Botley claimed their third Texas Class 5A state title in four years.

Botley earned All-Tournament honors for his effort.

“This year was the most exciting because I was a senior and I wanted to go out the right way,” Botley said.

Botley says he averaged 21 points and four assists in district play as a senior and was the Offensive Player of the Year in his conference.

South Alabama and LIU-Brooklyn are also pursing Botley, who feels as though he'd have many more suitors if he were a little taller.

“A lot of people didn't think I could play at a high level in college basketball because of my size,” Botley said. “I would like to prove all those people wrong.”

The Owls' offense struggled this year when the preseason departure of Ray Taylor left FAU without a true offense. Botley is aware of the situation and believes he could be part of the solution.

“I feel like it would be a great opportunity for me to come in and help the team immediately,” he said.

Nearly a month ago Cass Tech (Detroit) point guard D'Andre Johnson also committed to play for the Owls.
