BOCA RATON – Thirteen Florida Atlantic players tried to catch the attention of NFL scouts during the school’s Pro Day on Thursday.
For all but three players, it was their best chance to impress the scouts, but for some of the Owls, there wasn’t quite the pressure or need to perform
Tight end Rob Housler, quarterback Jeff Van Camp and wide receiver Lester Jean are fresh off their workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine and only worked out briefly on Thursday.
Jean didn’t go through most of the drills, but did run a 4.53 40-yard dash, improving on the 4.61 he turned in at the Combine,
Jean may not have go through most of the stations, but did participate with Housler and Van Camp in a passing and catching drill for the scouts.
“Coming out here was just another day at the practice fields,” Housler said. “It felt more like pitch and catch with your friends, because that’s what they are – my friends. I enjoyed it.”
Participating in the combine took some of the pressure off Thursday’s workout at the Oxley Practice Fields, Van Camp said.
“I think that really helped - going to Indianapolis ,” Van Camp said. “After what they put you through, it’s more enjoyable to just come out here and show what you can do.”
Another player who was watched closely by the scouts was linebacker Michael Lockley.
“The feedback I got was that I did good today and I’ll take that,” Lockley said. “I did pretty good in all the drills especially the football drills they put me through.”
