Rewind: Women's sports

We take a sport-by-sport look at how each FAU women's team fared in 2011-12.

Here’s how each FAU women’s team fared in the 2011-12 season:

Basketball

  • Overall Record: 17-13
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: 11-4, 2nd in Sun Belt’s East Division
  • Owl-Star Performer: Sophomore forward Chenise Miller, who led the Owls with 10.6 points per game, was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference second team.
  • Last Word: The Owls made it to the Women’s NIT, but it wasn’t enough for FAU to make a long-term commitment to coach Chancellor Dugan. Dugan, the most successful coach in the program’s history, has been replaced by Nebraska assistant Kellie Lewis-Jay.

Cross Country

  • Overall Record: N/A
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: Finished 6th at Sun Belt Conference meet
  • Owl-Star Performer: Senior Rebecca Hallam finished ninth at the Sun Belt Conference meet and 35th at NCAA South Regional.
  • Last Word: Freshman Michelle Jax was impressive, coming in 56th at NCAA South Regional meet.

Golf

  • Overall Record: N/A
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: Finished 11th at Sun Belt Conference Championship
  • Owl-Star Performer: Anna Wiklund led the Owls with a 77.30 stroke average.
  • Last Word: The Owls lose both Wiklund and senior Brooke McPoyle.

Soccer

  • Overall Record: 6-11-1
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: 2-8-1, 11th in Sun Belt Conference
  • Owl-Star Performer: Sophomore Brittney Nash had a team-high five assists and four goals.
  • Last Word: After a rebuilding season, the Owls return most of their offensive firepower next season.

Softball

  • Overall Record: 15-39
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: 5-18, Tied for 8th in Sun Belt Conference
  • Owl-Star Performer: Junior Taylor Fawbush, who hit .304 with 11 doubles, was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference second team.
  • Last Word: The Owls had the only losing season in program history, but will have 11 players who started at least 20 games back for next season.

Swimming

  • Overall Record: N/A
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: Finished 5th at Sun Belt meet
  • Owl-Star Performer: Junior Eszter Bucz won the Sun Belt Championship in the 1,650 Freestyle and in the 400-yard IM with 4:12.64, which set a Sun Belt record.
  • Last Word: Bucz and freshman Anett Kovacs form a strong returning group for next season.

Tennis

  • Overall Record: 10-9
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: Seeded No. 9 in Sun Belt Tournament
  • Owl-Star Performer: Junior Marlene Ryan was 10-2 in singles play had a 10-match winning streak.
  • Last Word: FAU loses two of its top singles players to graduation.

Indoor Track

  • Overall Record: N/A
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: Finished 8th at the Sun Belt meet
  • Owl-Star Performer: Annakay Dennis finished second in the 400-meter dash with 55.59 in the Sun Belt meet.
  • Last Word: The Owls had seven top-10 finishes at the Sun Belt meet.

Outdoor Track

  • Overall Record: N/A
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: Finished 8th at SBC meet
  • Owl-Star Performer: Senior Rebecca Hallam had 19 top 10 finishes.
  • Last Word: Sophomore Danielle Aromashodu advanced to NCAA East Preliminaries in 400 meter hurdles.

Volleyball

  • Overall Record: 3-26
  • Sun Belt Conference Record/Standing: 0-16, 6th in Sun Belt East Division
  • Owl-Star Performer: Junior Cintia Nightingale recorded her 1,000 career dig.
  • Last Word: FAU fired coach Jody Brown after another disappointing season. Former FGCU assistant Fernanda Nelson will be announced as the new Owls coach next week.
