Talk Owls-Hoosiers here...

  FAU  (5-6, 1-1 Sun Belt)
at No. 6 Indiana (
10-1, 0-0 Big 10)

About the Owls: The No. 6 Hoosiers are the highest-ranked team FAU has faced since losing to No. 4 Kansas in 2007. ...Walk-on Richard Morrow may not play the 17 minutes he saw in Tuesday's Stetson game, but Jarvis still expects him to see significant action. ...With Moody suspended, Pablo Bertone (7.1 ppg) is the Owls' second-leading scorer.

About the Hoosiers: Indiana was the No. 1 team in the nation prior to Saturday's loss against Butler. ...Reserve guard Maurice Creek suffered an ankle injury in practice on Sunday and is not expected to play. ...The Hoosiers have five players averaging in double figures, led by Cody Zeller (15.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg.).

Would the world end today if FAU beat Indiana?

Posted: 12/21/2012 11:47:00 AM

Why would it be the End of the world if for some chance FAU gets a win. I am just glad that the team is in Bloomington and not struck in a airport or a truck stop waiting  for the snow strom to pass by. When will FAU get cold weather gear for our Athletics, our cold weather gear  is a joke. I have seen the sofball team play UCLA in Clermont FL when it was in the high 30's low 40's our team had warmup jackets on when UCLA had ankle lenght winter jackets on, I have seen  football parents buy gloves and long sleeve under shirts for our football players in Jonesboro AK and Bowling Green KY when the temp was below 40 with  20 mph wind. Just this year when we played Navy, the home team had heated sidelines  while FAU was standing in the cold with no jackets. So if we win tonight  it just may take away some of the sting of a bitter winter storm.

I was just worried that maybe the Mayans predicted an FAU victory.

Blowout by halftime: Indiana 55, FAU 25. Gantt has 14 points and is the only Owl who looks like he belongs out there.

Let me take that back. Mattison is showing no fear.

Gantt scores 25 - needs 4 to break the record. FAU falls to Indiana 88-52.

Really weak performance tonight.

Has this program made any progress in the last five years?

Posted: 12/22/2012 5:54:00 AM

Hey Chi, perhaps you forgot that Sun Belt regular season title a year and a half ago. Figured I'd jump on and answer your question.

Regular season titles are nice, but how many postseason games has FAU won under Jarvis?

Posted: 12/22/2012 11:30:00 AM

The postseason record is disturbing, but there is little doubt that this program as a whole is far better than it was five years ago. You can't really judge by last night. Indiana is going to do that against several Big 10 teams this year.

If Gantt keeps this up and gets any type of support, FAU could be a dangerous team come tournament time. Of course, if the front court doesn't start playing it will be another short stint in Hot Springs.

The postseason record is disturbing. That said, FAU has played legitimate ROAD games every year in Hot Springs. Have gone up against massive fan support from South Al, North Texas, and Arkansas State. I don't recall one Owls fan ever making the trip. That doesn't excuse 0-3 at the tourney, but FAU goes in with massive deck stacked against it every single year.

I'm not going to doubt you, because you were there. But really, South Alabama and North Texas had massive fan support?

My point is that this program seems to have plataeud under Jarvis and may be heading backwards, not forward.

And in college basketball, like Canadian Owl said, the postseason is where you are judged and Jarvis is 0-for March.

I'm not giving up yet, but it just seems like we are running in quick sand.

BTW, you do a great job on the broadcasts and it's great to have you answering some of the questions we have here on OwlAccess.

Thanks Chi! I'm glad you post so that I can keep getting the pulse of FAU fans. Winning in basketball at FAU isn't easy. For a multitude of reasons. A reg season title can't simply be brushes off. Before everyone goes into mass hysteria let the remaining 18 gms and 95% of the SBC season play out.
