We're hearing the student tailgating area may be moving to an area in front of FAU Stadium.

Here's what we are hearing.

Sound like a good idea?

Any move of the student tailgate area would be a good one.

The old area was too far away from the stadium

Get the kids  involved as much as they can.  Liven up the tailgates with crazy kids, music, and lots of fun. One rule though, no adults are aloud that may bring the place down. There is nothing worse. All they want is our money. My kid will be there and I will be with the rest of my family out of view of them. I don't want to see or know anything.

Of course there has to be some oversite or you will have major problems especially when alcohol is involved.

I'm sure there will be plenty of alcohol enforcement officers wandering around. FAU police will be there too.

I think the FAU police did a great job last year. They let everyone have fun without letting it get out of hand.

FAU Student Tailgate Area Moved for Football Season

July 6, 2012

BOCA RATON, FL - FAU Student Tailgate Area Moved for Football Season New Location to Provide an Opportunity for More Student Involvement

Florida Atlantic University athletics and Student Government have agreed to relocate the "Rat's Mouth" (student tailgate area) to the south football stadium exterior lawn.

"College football game days are special," said Melissa Dawson, FAU's interim athletics director. "The excitement and enthusiasm demonstrated by our students is contagious. We believe that fans and supporters missed the student enthusiasm last year because of the student tailgate location. We have partnered with SG to relocate the `Rat's Mouth' in order to enhance everyone's game day experience, including our students, our alumni and the community."

The students gathered on the administration lawn, adjacent to the FAU Alumni Circle, during the inaugural football season. This location provided them the opportunity to be the first to greet the FAU football team as they exited the buses to head to the stadium. The new location will be situated outside of the stadium under the video board between gates two and three, and will help to integrate the students into all of the pregame festivities and bring student life to the corporate tailgate area. This location also will provide an easy entrance through the student gates and to the team store.

"I am excited to see our students tailgate in the new Rat's Mouth location agreed upon by Student Government and FAU Athletics," said Robert Huffman FAU SG president. "This location gives students a chance to fully experience the great college football environment, and allows the parents, alumni, and community to enjoy the pre-game atmosphere that has been eagerly desired by all Owl fans!"

Poster says tailgating allowed 4 hours before game time with set up allowed 5 hours before. Really, I thought is was a shorter time frame than that. I like it!

Who ever was in charge of making this decision....good job.  This is what College Football is all about.

Hint on why it was effective: The athletic department's marketing department didn't do it
